CPA Firm Website Case Study: Compliant, Local, and Ready to Rank

This CPA firm website case study covers a build for a Calgary accounting practice run by one Chartered Professional Accountant. We are not naming the firm. The work that mattered was not the design; it was writing a full site inside a regulated profession's advertising rules and pointing it at the one search term the firm can win.

The goal

Replace a five-page WordPress site with a complete, compliant, fast website that ranks for the firm's city and turns visitors into consultations and tax-guide downloads.

What we built

  • 49 pages on Next.js: 9 core pages, 6 services, 7 locations, 8 industries, 14 articles, 3 tools and resources, and 2 legal pages, with 21 redirects mapping every old URL to its new home.
  • Copy written to CPA Alberta's advertising rules: no specialty claims, no superlatives, no comparisons, no promised outcomes, precise credential wording, and testimonials with a disclaimer. Three genuine Google reviews replaced placeholder quotes.
  • A personal tax calculator checked against the confirmed 2026 federal and Alberta brackets, plus a downloadable tax guide as a second conversion point.
  • A focused local SEO plan. We measured five city quadrant pages at 0 to 20 searches a month and folded them into one Calgary page with 301 redirects. The seven nearby-town pages stay as conversion pages for referrals and ads. The lane is the city head term, where page one is held by sites with authority between 6 and 17, and the firm has a real address and genuine reviews.
  • Forms through a send-only email key, so a leaked key could never read anything, with an audit log behind it.

The results

  • 114 commits over 20 working days, with the first full 50-page build delivered in a single day on May 10, 2026.
  • On-page SEO score raised from 85 to 92 in the July pass, with every service and location page carrying its own title, description and schema.
  • Launch-ready. The site is built and verified; it moves onto the firm's domain once the firm completes its DNS and email setup.

What it means for your practice

A regulated professional can have a website that is both compliant and findable. The order of work is the rule first, then the copy, then one measured local target. If you run an accounting, dental, legal or health practice in the GTA, book a free consultation. Our accountant web design page covers what we build for firms like this one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the advertising rules for a CPA firm website in Canada?
Each provincial body sets its own, and the pattern is consistent: no claim of a specialty the regulator does not recognize, no superlatives such as best or leading, nothing that disparages other practitioners, no promised outcomes, and testimonials with a disclaimer. We write to the rule line by line and the licensed CPA signs off.
Does an accounting firm need a page for every neighbourhood?
Only if people search the neighbourhood. For this firm the city quadrant terms had almost no searches, so five pages became one strong city page. Nearby town pages were kept because they convert referrals, with clear expectations about search.
Can Cressoft build a compliant website for a GTA accounting practice?
Yes. The same process applies under CPA Ontario, and to dentists under the RCDSO and naturopaths under the CONO: find the rule first, write to it, keep the sign-off with the licence holder.
